We provide a comprehensive eye test for all patients – both Private & NHS
Diabetes is a condition where the amount of glucose in your blood is too high because the body cannot use it properly. This is because your pancreas does not produce enough insulin to help the glucose enter your cells.
Diabetic screening is very important as it helps to prevent sight loss and checks the health of your eyes. Screening can detect any damage early before you notice any changes to your vision.
You will usually require drops in your eyes, this will make your pupils larger to allow a clearer image for your optician before your screening. We will then take photographs of the back of the eye and send them to the hospital for analysis.
OCT is a non-invasive imaging test. It uses light waves to take cross section pictures of your retina. OCT is useful in diagnosing many eye conditions such as a macular hole, age related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
You may require drops to dilate your pupils before your OCT test, this is to make your pupils larger to allow a clearer image. Our staff will be able to advise you about this, when you make your appointment.
We offer home visit eye tests for those who are housebound and cannot attend the practice.
Your optician will conduct your eye test at home at a pre-arranged time convenient for you. As part of our service we will bring a selection of frames for you to choose from, should you require glasses. We will later deliver your glasses to your home once they are ready!
At Paul Moore Opticians you can expect a high quality of service during your home visit. To request a home visit eye test - please call the practice on (0151) 678 3400.
We provide the following types of contact lenses:
Trial & Fitting
A full consultation, trial and ‘fitting’ is provided for anyone wishing to try contact lenses to ensure they are suitable. Your optician will provide you with information as to which contact lens type will be best for you, based on your prescription, lifestyle, hobbies and budget.

Aftercare & Check Ups
Once you become a contact-lens wearer you must have regular contact lens check-ups in addition to your sight test.
This aftercare is to ensure your eyes stay healthy and that your contact lenses are still suitable for you and are not damaging your eyes. You will be required to come in for your check up wearing your contact lenses so that your optometrist can check them in your eyes.
A pre-operative cataract assessment is an appointment with your optician before surgery to examine your eyes in order to assess the amount and type of cataract you might have, to decide whether you are eligible for cataract surgery. During the assessment you can discuss with your optician anything to do with your operation, including:
After your assessment, if your optician says you are eligible for surgery and you decide to go ahead with being referred, then you will be asked to provide a list of your current medications in order to proceed with your referral.
Colour testing is a simple assessment to detect colour deficiency, usually involving identifying numbers constructed from coloured dots. Colour testing is important because colour vision is a requirement for certain careers, such as the armed forces, electrical engineering and aviation.
